Employee Resources - FERPA Tutorial

In 1974, Congress enacted the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which places restrictions on any school, college or university receiving federal funds over the release of student records.
The FERPA Tutorial is a learning tool designed to provide students, faculty, and staff a better understanding of the confidentiality protections that federal law affords the records that colleges and universities maintain about their students.

  • Log in to Canvas at with your MEID and enterprise password
  • Hover over the Courses menu to display the courses in which you are enrolled
  • Click on the MCCCD Employee FERPA Compliance course
  • Click on the Course Information link, located on the navigation menu to the left
  • Click on Begin FERPA Online Tutorial
  • Click the Completion Form link and follow the instructions to receive credit for this course
